Black and minority ethnic carers

Black History Month Family Day Celebration

There will be a free family celebration as part of Black History Month on Sunday 15 October 2017 at Brighton Dome. If you are interested in fostering, come along to this free family fun day and chat to our foster carers at the Brighton & Hove fostering team stall. We will be there from 12 noon till 4.00pm and we would love to see you

Brighton and Hove is a vibrant, multicultural city that is home to many ethnic, religious and cultural groups. This means that the children that we place come from a range of backgrounds. We expect all of our carers to respect and value the ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds of the children in their care.

At the moment we have children from black and minority ethnic (BME) groups in need of short and long term care. We will try and place children with carers that share their ethnic or cultural background. We particularly need Black African, Black Caribbean, Mixed Heritage, Irish and Asian carers as well as White British families.

As part of our commitment to recruiting BME foster carers, we have a specialist Recruitment and Publicity Officer for BME Carers – Virginia Collison. Virginia’s role is to develop links with BME communities within Brighton and Hove and encourage people to take that first step towards fostering. She is based with the fostering recruitment team. You can contact her on 01273 295444 or virginia.collison@brighton-hove.gov.uk
